Half Price Books is one of those rare chain volume stores that doesn't feel like a concatenation. The books and records are half-priced because many of them are used and well-worn. "We buy and sell everything ever printed or recorded (except yesterday's newspaper)" is the Dallas-based visitor'southward motto.
There are 125 Half Price Books stores in 17 states beyond the land, just each shop has its ain attitude, dictated by the rotating selection of pre-owned literature populating the shelves. The Bay Area is home to four Half Price Books stores, a number that will dwindle to iii in the spring with the closure of the Concur shop. The store hopes to reopen in a nearby location.
"Our landlord for our Concord shop informed us that with the level of interest in the property, they decided not to renew Half Price Books at our current location," said Emily Bruce, Half Price Books' public relations director.
"Equally of now, we are planning to close in early May to give us time to motility our product and store fixtures by the end of the month when our lease officially ends." She said the store does not have any closing sales planned at this fourth dimension.
Bruce said the company is actively searching for a new location and has sent multiple messages of intent to spaces nearby.

The closure follows a rash of bookstore exits in Contra Costa Canton, where high rents and competition from Amazon mean book selling is a catchy business.
According to the Concord Communities Alliance, the bookstore will exist replaced with a Bank of America. The real estate developer who owns the property did not immediately answer to a request to ostend the bank'due south purported takeover of the space.
Community members responded with outrage on a Facebook post announcing the closure. Some of the hundreds of commenters chosen for "books not bucks" and accounted the store an integral piece of the downtown surface area.
"This store is really the only reason I visit downtown Hold," wrote Courtney Mastella-O'Brien.
"What a shame," said Elizabeth Chafee. "This is a business that donates boxes of books to any instructor who asks. As a teacher with a limited budget, I capeesh any business organization willing to lend a paw."
Half Cost Books has Bay Area stores in Berkeley, Dublin and Fremont.
